Ever Wondered How Your Favorite Beer is Brewed?
At Medusa Beverages, crafting exceptional beer isn’t just a process—it’s an art. From selecting the finest ingredients to using time-tested brewing techniques, every sip of Medusa beer tells a story of quality, innovation, and passion.
Let’s take you behind the scenes to understand how your favourite beer is brewed and why every can of Medusa is a masterpiece.
The 6-Step Beer Brewing Process 🍻
1. Malting – The Foundation of Flavor
The journey begins with malting—where grains like barley, wheat, rye, or oats are soaked, germinated, and dried. This process activates natural enzymes that break down starches into fermentable sugars.
Why It Matters:
- Determines beer colour and flavour
- Essential for beer’s sweetness and depth
- Key to crafting light lagers or dark stouts
2. Mashing – Extracting the Goodness
Next, the malted grains are mixed with hot water in a mash tun, converting the starches into a sugar-rich liquid called wort.
🔥 Key Factors:
- Mash temperature controls body & sweetness
- Higher temperatures → fuller-bodied beers
- Lower temperatures → crisp, dry finishes
3. Lautering – Maximizing Sugar Extraction
This step separates wort from the spent grains, ensuring all the sugars are extracted. The grains are rinsed with hot water, leaving behind a pure, sweet wort for the next phase.
Sustainability Tip: At Medusa, we reuse spent grains to minimise waste!
4. Boiling – Infusing Hops & Flavor
The wort is boiled, and hops are added to balance sweetness with bitterness. This step also:
Kills unwanted bacteria
Enhances beer’s stability & shelf life
Adds bitterness & aromatic flavors
Hops We Use:
- Citrusy & floral hops for light, refreshing beers
- Earthy & piney hops for bold, complex brews
5. Fermentation – The Magic Begins
Once the wort cools, yeast is added, and fermentation begins. Yeast converts sugars into alcohol and carbonation, giving the beer its signature taste and aroma.
Fermentation time: 7-14 days (varies by beer type)
🍺 Ale vs. Lager? Ales ferment at warmer temperatures, while lagers require cooler conditions.
